Mykonos

Mykonos Paradise beach

A rather small but famous island of the Cyclades group of islands in Greece, Mykonos is among the top travel destinations in the world. It is known for its beaches and traditional architecture but it is famous for its nightlife that resembles an everlasting party that starts from early May and ends somewhere during late October.

Mykonos covers an area of approximately 86 square kilometers and is rather flat, with its highest peak reaching 340 meters. Rock and sand are the most common materials and its location and geology ensures a temperate climate throughout the year, with very few exceptions. During summer, the wind from the northern Aegean Sea keeps the temperature down and the tourists cool. When too strong, wind surfers go wild having their own “aquatic” party.

When sober, you can go island hopping and visit its nearest Cycladic islands. These are Delos, Tinos, Naxos, Paros and Syros, ordered by proximity.

Mykonos attracts tourists for all budgets, but it is most famous for attracting the jet-set of Greece, other European countries and the US. It will not be a great surprise to come across actors, famous writers or fashion designers while holidaying in Mykonos.

If clubbing is not your thing, Mykonos is still the island to visit as it offers a variety of activities and places to be for everyone. The best months to visit Mykonos, highly depends on the kind of holidays you wish to have. If you wish to be left alone, then May, early June and late September are the dates for you. For the partying types, any date between middle June and mid September would be just fine.

When it comes to beaches, Mykonos has much to offer. Super Paradise beach stands out as the most characteristic beach of the island, followed by Paradise beach, Elia beach, Kalo Livadi, Platys Gialos, psarou and many more. Needless to say that there are at least 25 beaches on Mykonos, some of which are accessed by boat only.
